Embarkation Day

I awoke to an empty hotel room. Katie had left early that morning in search of some magical face something. I showered and packed (again). Katie returned and we loaded the car and took off for the pier. Driving through downtown San Diego was very interesting. Not just the crazy drivers but the energy and excitement of the city.
We got to the pier and there she was in all her splendor, The Celebrity Mercury! Katie dropped me off and the luggage off, then returned the car. I waited at the pier just itching to get on the ship. I met several other people that were cruising with us while I was waiting. We were all soooo excited!
Katie came back and we checked in for the cruise. A few minutes later they called our number and before we knew it we were on board. That was at about 11:30. We were immediately directed to the Palm Springs Café for lunch. Yes, it’s true, any food that you could ever want is available 24/7. Our room was ready at about 1:30, so we unpacked, then I explored the ship. I took a tour of the Spa and bought a pass to the Thalassotherapy Pool. It’s a huge hot tub-looking thing that’s filled with mineral water. It has many jets at different locations for all parts of your body. The cruise pass costs $165 for a singe and $150 for a couple, that’s $150 for both. So, Katie and I immediately became a couple. We can enjoy the pool anytime between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. I didn’t buy any of the other spa services because I need some spending money LOL!
Then at about 5:00 the ship blew it's horn 3 times and we backed out of the pier. There were 2 whales behind the ship wishing us farewell and safe tavels!
The ship is older, but in beautiful condition. Katie said it’s not as ornate as the Carnival ship she was on a couple of years ago. There are decks everywhere, even a topless sun tanning deck, many bars and dining areas, an auditorium, a theater, and of course a casino (I’d forgotten how quickly I can spend $20!). The main dining room is two stories with an atrium staircase. Very beautiful.
The crew on this ship are very friendly and will help you with anything you need or want. During the lifeboat drill, the locator beacon fell off of my life jacket, I was immediately swarmed by six crewmembers and they did not leave my side until it was back on securely.
We dressed for dinner. I had a shrimp cocktail, roasted tomato and garlic soup, prime rib, and crème brule for dessert. I also had an excellent Kendal l and Jackson cabernet with my meal. Recommended by the somalier and very good. Just a quick note, I’m not a red wine drinker, but this complemented the meal so well, and it wasn’t very dry.
After dinner I went to the therapy pool again, then explored the ship. I fell asleep at about 3:00am then was up at 8:00 the next day.
